What is MEYO
MEYO is an integrated outreach to the at-risk neighborhood children and youth in the inner-west side of San Antonio. MEYO creates an environment that empowers its participants through Personal Development, Service to the Community, Solid Character Formation, and a dedication to Post High School Learning. The programs include: Peace Pals (1st-5th after school program) and House of Teens (6th-12th after school program).
Our elementary-aged program, PEACE PALs, runs four days a week from 3:30-5:30 pm at Divine Redeemer Presbyterian Church. House of Teens operates across the street from 4-6 pm on the same days. Every other Thursday, we host Aquanimous- a faith & life reflection circle for teens from the neighborhood and church. This past spring, we started a Parent Education Program, meeting once a month. Other weekend/summer programming includes community building activities, community service, a mission/service trip, Peace Camp, college prep/visits with our collaborator College VISTA (a holistic college advising program), and a Christian Education program for elementary youth of the church, called Let it Grow. Holistic advising includes sessions in leadership, mentoring, SAT/ACT college prep, community service and field trips, in addition to basic college admissions support. In a given week we impact about 70 individual youth with our programs. Over the course of a year we will have over 300 different participants between Peace Pals, House of Teens, and Peace Camp.
